[773] Of CCTV in Kuala Lumpur
This is an old news but its effect is of no little consequence. Hugging and kissing in public are deemed as indecent acts:

No kissing please, we are Malaysians!

PUTRAJAYA: The local government has the power to establish by-laws to prosecute citizens who behave disorderly in public, the Federal Court ruled yesterday.

Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim, together with Federal Court judges Datuk Alauddin Sheriff and Datuk Richard Malanjum, unanimously held that the Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) was correct to charge two students for behaving indecently by hugging and kissing at Kuala Lumpur City Centre Park.

With that in mind, perhaps it's time we all give the mushrooming closed-circuit TV in Kuala Lumpur a more serious consideration?

The photo was taken near Dayabumi. Just across the street from the post office headquarters to be precise.

With the moral police winning that case, imagine how they could utilize all those CCTVs in the city. We could be kissing our civil liberties goodbye.

Oh, wait. It's unlawful to kiss.

As a self-proclaimed libertarian, I have this to say: what's going in our bedroom is none of the government's concern.

pp/s - Bloomberg was talking about election in Singapore just now. The host roughly said: "We don't know who will win in Singapore. Or do we?"

ppp/s - from Foreign Policy:

A survey published in the Journal of Economic Perspectives found that 77 percent of the doctoral candidates in the leading departments in the United States believe that "economics is the most scientific of the social sciences." It turns out, however, that this certitude does not stem from how well they regard their own discipline but rather from their contempt for the other social sciences.

Heh.

CCTVs put up are meant to prevent crime or record a crime that might be taking place, you bird brain. I thought that is what everybody wanted. Nobody is going to review all that footage just to prosecute kissing couples.

For all your complaints about the CCTV's monitoring the kissing couples, you seem oblivious to the 68,000 bastard @ 'anak haram' babies produced in 2005 by the adulterous Malaysian Malays especially the IPTA students as reported by the Majlis Perunding Wanita Islam Malaysia(MPWIM) and the Jama'ah Islah Malaysia (JIM)in the 19th of April 2006 (Wednesday)Kosmo Newspaper!

As vincent aptly termed you , you need to look at the reason why the bloody government are forced to monitor the screwed up Malaysians especially the lustful Malays!

The Malays are the highest perpetrators of sexual crimes especially incest!

No 'CCTV's in their homes, right?

This incident of the Chinese couple being fined is a clear case of the DBKL scrutinising on a mosquito and missing for the elephant's backside right before their face!

No amount of CCTV's will be able to stop this rot taking place in our society especially where it concerns the Malays!

Wise up!

Vincent: That's just rude. What happened to the good old common courtesy? Getting to the point, you said "CCTVs put up are meant to prevent crime". Nowadays, even kissing and hugging is a crime. Go figure. And just look at Mahaguru's comment. He said the government is "forced to monitor". Do you think those in the religious department aren't thinking of the same thing? Don't be surprised when you read it in the papers. I'd hate to say "I told you so".

Mahaguru: "What's going in our bedroom is none of the government's concern" is not meant to be taken literally. It's not about putting CCTV in bedroom in particular. It's an modern-day idiom that relates to privacy. Read up on issues surrounding CCTV and civil liberties. And no, I'm not oblivious to the child born out of wedlock so-called problem. If they had learned to use protection, this problem would be of a far smaller scale. And we don't need moral police, especially when it's going to enforce your morality on others.
